Install Guide

How to Install Your Travel eSIM

Install it at home on Wi-Fi, switch it on when you land. Menu names vary slightly between phones and software versions, but the steps are the same.

Before You Start

Have These Ready.

  • A compatible, unlocked phone. Not sure? Use the phone check.

  • Wi-Fi. The eSIM downloads over Wi-Fi, so install before you leave.

  • Your QR code, or the manual details. Open the code on a second screen, or print it, so you can scan it with the phone you are installing on.

  • Your confirmation message. It tells you when your plan starts.

Step by Step

Choose Your Phone.

On iPhone

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi.

  2. Open Settings, then Mobile Data (or Cellular), then Add eSIM. On some versions it is called Add Cellular Plan. Choose Use QR Code.

  3. Scan the QR code. If you cannot scan it, choose Enter Details Manually and type in the details from your confirmation exactly as shown.

  4. Label the plan. Give it a name you will recognise, such as “Travel”, so you do not confuse it with your home line.

  5. Choose how each line is used. Keep your home line as the default for calls and messages. For Mobile Data, choose the travel eSIM. Turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching so the phone does not switch back to your home line.

  6. When you arrive, turn on Data Roaming for the travel line. Settings > Mobile Data > your travel plan > Data Roaming. Leave it off for your home line.

On Android

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi.

  2. Open the eSIM add screen. On many phones this is Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add eSIM. On Samsung it is usually Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Choose to scan a QR code.

  3. Scan the QR code. If scanning fails, look for an option to enter the details manually and use the details from your confirmation exactly as shown.

  4. Label the plan. Rename it to something like “Travel” in the SIM settings.

  5. Choose how each line is used. Keep your home SIM for calls and messages. Set Mobile data to the travel eSIM.

  6. When you arrive, turn on Data roaming for the travel eSIM. It is usually in the settings for that SIM. Leave it off for your home SIM.

Keep your home SIM for calls and WhatsApp. Your usual number stays active. The travel eSIM only carries mobile data. Do not delete the eSIM after installing it, as it usually cannot be installed again.

When You Land

Switch On and Check.

  1. Turn off airplane mode.

  2. Turn on Data Roaming for the travel eSIM line and confirm mobile data is set to that line.

  3. Wait a minute for the network name to appear in the status bar, then open a web page to test.

Troubleshooting

Common Questions and Fixes.

I installed the eSIM but I have no data.

Check that the eSIM line is switched on and is selected for mobile data (Cellular Data on iPhone, Mobile data on Android).

Turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line once you have arrived. Many travel eSIMs need it to connect.

Switch airplane mode on for ten seconds and off again, or restart the phone. If you are indoors with a weak signal, try near a window or outside.

My phone says it cannot add the eSIM.

Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and that the phone’s software is up to date.

Check that the phone supports eSIM and is network-unlocked. The phone check page explains how.

Restart the phone and try once more. If the same error returns, do not keep retrying. Contact support with a screenshot of the message.

My QR code was already used, or I cannot scan it twice.

eSIM QR codes are usually single-use. Once an eSIM has been installed, the same code generally cannot be installed again, even if the eSIM was later deleted.

For that reason, do not delete the eSIM from your phone unless you are sure you no longer need it.

If the install stopped part-way or you changed phones, contact support before trying again.

Do I need to change the APN?

Usually not. Most eSIMs set themselves up automatically.

If your confirmation lists APN details, enter them exactly as shown. On iPhone go to Settings, Mobile Data, your travel plan, then Mobile Data Network. On Android go to Settings, Network, your travel SIM, then Access Point Names. A wrong APN is a common cause of “connected but no internet”.

My phone says “No service”.

Check that the eSIM line is on, and that you are in an area with coverage.

Try selecting the network manually in the SIM settings, or turn automatic selection back on.

Restart the phone. If it still shows no service after a few minutes outdoors, contact support.

Will using the eSIM drain my battery?

Having two lines active can use a little more battery, particularly in weak-signal areas. Lowering screen brightness and closing unused apps helps. Carry a power bank on long days out.

Why should I turn Data Roaming on?

A travel eSIM connects to local networks while you are abroad, so your phone treats it as roaming. Turn Data Roaming on for the travel eSIM line only.

Leave Data Roaming off for your home SIM and set mobile data to the eSIM line, so your home plan is not used for data by mistake.

Can I keep using my home number?

Yes. Your home SIM stays in the phone for calls and messages. WhatsApp keeps working on your usual number while the travel eSIM carries the mobile data.
